We believe that knowledge is attained through experience and understanding; for example, through going to school. We gain knowledge of accounting because we learned it from attending class, this allows us to gain the knowledge and expertise to get a job at an accounting firm where we will hopefully succeed.
Knowledge is ones own understanding of "data, informational experience, and individual interpretation," and can be broken down into Tacit and Explicit knowledge. Tacit knowledge is considered to be knowledge that 'you just know' and is subconsciously understood yet difficult to articulate. Explicit knowledge can be precisely articulated and replicated, as well as shared amongst one another; for example, being able to comprise a textbook.
Where does knowledge reside?
Knowledge resides inside the person. We all have knowledge of something, for example one may have knowledge about dance, therefore that knowledge resides within them. We believe that knowledge is dependant on who the person is and is based on individual interpretation, and everyone has different point of views on what is considered to be knowledge.
Although some people may think that things such as a textbook contain knowledge, it is our opinion that this text is only a product of someone else's knowledge. It is not until we have read and absorbed what the text is saying and using it in our daily life that it becomes knowledge of our own.
