But it is no stranger than using words or pictures to represent knowledge. The substantial content of knowledge lies in the human world of minds, bodies and relationships. Somehow, we are able to use symbols to carry and transmit knowledge without entirely losing this substance. However, the substance does leak away unless it is renewed by some actual process in real time that engages the human being.
